Key Benefits of SOC 2 Readiness Assessment
Know Your Starting Point
A documented gap report shows exactly where your controls stand against the criteria before you commit to an examination date.
Better Use of Budget
Remediating gaps before the observation window helps the examination phase run more smoothly and reduces avoidable rework.
Clear Ownership
Every remediation action is assigned a named owner and target date, so the plan survives contact with day-to-day operations.
Audit-Ready Evidence
Evidence collection procedures are set up during readiness, so the observation window produces the records the CPA firm will examine.
8-Step Attestation Process
From initial gap analysis to award of attestation — we guide you through every step of the journey.

What the readiness assessment examines
Short answer: the readiness assessment is a structured gap analysis of your control environment against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria you have selected. It examines the controls, documentation and evidence your organisation already has — and identifies exactly what is missing before the CPA examination begins.
The readiness assessment is preparation work. It is not a certification, a formal SOC 2 attestation, or an award — the SOC 2 report is issued only by an independent CPA firm after its examination. For the full engagement, see the SOC 2 consultancy page.
Assessment scope and information request
Before fieldwork, ICPL agrees the assessment scope with you — the system in scope, the Trust Services Criteria selected, and the locations or environments involved. You then supply the starting information: an organisation chart, a system and vendor inventory, existing policies, customer contract extracts with security commitments, and any prior audit or certification reports.
Interviews and control review
ICPL reviews your control environment through structured interviews with control owners — IT, engineering, HR, operations and management — and inspects the artefacts each control should produce. The review covers the mandatory Security criteria plus any optional criteria in scope.
Gap classification and prioritisation
Every gap found is classified by severity — from gaps that would likely produce report exceptions, to documentation polish — and prioritised by how much they would cost to remediate before the observation window opens.
Remediation actions, owners and target dates
The output is a remediation plan, not a shelf document: each action has a named owner, a target date and a definition of done. ICPL coaches owners through closure and re-tests remediated controls before handover.
Evidence preparation
ICPL sets up the evidence register and collection procedures — what to collect, from which system, how often, stored where — so evidence accumulates consistently across the Type II observation window instead of being reconstructed at audit time.
Readiness completion criteria and CPA handover
The assessment is complete when the agreed criteria are met: gaps remediated or formally accepted, evidence procedures operating, the system description drafted, and a mock CPA-style review passed. ICPL then packages the handover documentation for the CPA firm and coordinates examination scheduling.
Does the readiness assessment result in a SOC 2 report?
No. The readiness assessment is preparation. The SOC 2 report is issued only by an independent CPA firm after its own examination. ICPL is a consultancy — we are not the examiner, and readiness is not a certification, attestation or award.
How long does the readiness assessment take?
Typically a few weeks, depending on the scope, the criteria selected and how quickly information and interviews can be scheduled. It is separate from — and comes before — the Type II observation window.

Common Questions About SOC 2 Readiness Assessment in Singapore
What is a SOC 2 readiness assessment?
A SOC 2 readiness assessment is a structured gap analysis of your control environment against the AICPA Trust Services Criteria you have selected. ICPL reviews your controls, documentation and evidence, classifies the gaps, and delivers a prioritised remediation plan with named owners and target dates. The assessment is preparation work — it is not a certification, a formal SOC 2 attestation or an award, and completing it does not by itself produce a SOC 2 report. The report is issued only by an independent CPA firm after its own examination.
What information does the client supply for the assessment?
Before fieldwork you provide an organisation chart, a system and vendor inventory, existing policies and procedures, customer contract extracts containing security or availability commitments, and any prior audit or certification reports. ICPL provides an information request list at kick-off so the collection is straightforward for your team.
How is the assessment performed?
ICPL reviews your control environment through structured interviews with control owners — IT, engineering, HR, operations and management — and inspects the artefacts each control should produce. The review covers the mandatory Security criteria plus any optional Trust Services Criteria in scope. Findings are classified by severity and prioritised by remediation effort.
What does ICPL deliver at the end?
A gap assessment report with classified findings, a remediation plan with owners and target dates, an evidence register with collection templates, a draft system description, and a mock CPA-style readiness review. When the completion criteria are met, ICPL packages the handover documentation for the CPA firm and coordinates examination scheduling.
How long does a SOC 2 readiness assessment take?
Typically a few weeks, depending on the scope, the criteria selected and how quickly information and interviews can be scheduled. The readiness assessment is separate from — and comes before — the Type II observation window agreed with the CPA firm.
What does a SOC 2 readiness assessment cost in Singapore?
Cost depends on the number of Trust Services Criteria in scope, the size and complexity of your control environment, and your existing control maturity. ICPL quotes after an initial scoping discussion. The CPA firm’s examination fees are separate and are paid directly to the CPA firm. The EDGE grant may offset qualifying readiness consultancy costs for eligible SMEs, subject to Enterprise Singapore’s assessment and approval.
