Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Compliance Management System (CMS) in Singapore?

A Compliance Management System (CMS) is a structured framework for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and managing an organisation's legal and regulatory obligations. In Singapore, ISO 37301:2021 is the international certifiable standard for a CMS, helping organisations demonstrate systematic, risk-based compliance governance to regulators, clients, and auditors.

What is the difference between ISO 37001 and ISO 37301?

ISO 37001 is specifically an Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) standard covering controls to prevent bribery by or of an organisation. ISO 37301 is a broader Compliance Management System standard covering all applicable legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations. Both can be implemented together as part of an integrated GRC programme.

Who needs an internal audit in Singapore?

Internal audit is required for all SGX-listed companies, MAS-licensed entities, and organisations with ISO management system certifications (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 27001 all require internal audits). For non-listed SMEs, independent internal audit demonstrates governance maturity and is increasingly required by enterprise clients and government procurement.

How does ICPL help with GRC in Singapore?

ICPL provides end-to-end GRC consultancy in Singapore — from ISO 37001 anti-bribery and ISO 37301 compliance management certification, to enterprise risk frameworks, whistleblowing system design, independent internal audit, and board governance. All projects are EDGE grant eligible for qualifying SMEs, with up to 50% co-funding.

What is business continuity planning and why is it important?

Business continuity planning (BCP) identifies critical business functions, sets recovery time objectives (RTOs), and creates tested procedures to maintain operations during disruptions — cyber attacks, pandemics, supply chain failures, or natural disasters. ISO 22301:2019 is the international standard for Business Continuity Management Systems and is increasingly required by MAS-regulated entities and enterprise clients.
